Invitation

Following the meeting of the Phytopathogens WG in Interlaken, Switzerland, 9-12 September 2008, the upcoming meeting will be held in Graz, Austria. Gabriele Berg and her colleagues from Graz University of Technology will be in charge of the organization. Graz, a UNESCO world heritage, is the second-largest city of Austria and the capital of Styria in the pleasurable South of Austria. Styria extends at the South Eastern slopes of the Alps. The undulating landscapes in the vicinity of Graz form the enchanting scenery of the Styrian wine region. Graz can be reached conveniently from outside Austria.
            The motto of workshop will be: “Climate change: challenge or threat to biocontrol?” We would like to stimulate discussions of this topic. Therefore we would welcome contributions with new results and innovative approaches in this context. We would also highlight work aimed at overcoming major practical constraints of biocontrol approaches, including basic research on interaction mechanisms.
            The aim is to strengthen the communication between plant pathologists and experts in other disciplines about new and relevant problems of biocontrol. Therefore, significant amount of time will be dedicated to facilitate exchange of knowledge in the field of integrated disease and pest management.
            According to figures at previous meetings we expect around 150 participants from many countries. The workshop will last 3 full days including professional and tourist excursions. More detailed information on the final program will be given in May. Conference language is English and both oral and poster presentations will be accepted. Following a good tradition, we will publish proceedings with short papers of the presentations in a forthcoming issue of the IOBC/WPRS Bulletin.
